The transfer portal period is getting crazy, and the more time that passes by, the more time you really start to realize which teams are going to have their work cut out for them the rest of the offseason. The Oklahoma Sooners are one of those teams that won't have it easy.
They will already have to rebuild nearly the entire offensive line after several guys entered on Monday. And of course, the wide receiver and tight end rooms are looking bleak as well. But now there are a few more rooms that could use some targeting in the transfer portal for depth pieces or even starters with experience.
These guys aren't household names by any means, but the Sooners just had two stud players, guys that the fan base knows pretty well, enter the portal. And, they were somewhat of a surprise.
Sooners defensive backs enter the transfer portal
According to several reports, most notably 247 Sports and Sooners Insider, Kani Walker, and Makari Vickers are entering the portal, and they should both get a ton of attention.
The two defensive backs have a ton of potential and are promising young talents. Vickers still has three years of eligibility left and was once a top-100 recruit in high school. Walker is a junior and made some big-time plays for the Sooners but has faced some crucial injuries during his college career.
The talent of these two is undeniable, and they may feel like the young guys already on the team and the ones coming in via the 2025 class are going to be too good and take up some of the playing time. And, let's not forget that true freshman Eli Bowen ended up being the best cornerback on the team by the year's end.
Either way, that's two defensive backs the Sooners are losing to the portal.
Most recent transfer portal entry signifies the Oklahoma Sooners may have to completely rebuild key position group
The Sooners are going to have a long offseason.
