Oklahoma Sooners have a brisk flashback to reality as they continue to do the things that shoot themselves in the foot
The Oklahoma Sooners went into halftime in Ann Arbor against Michigan down 10 points with none on the board, and it looked all too familiar.
The Oklahoma Sooners are in a fight in Ann Arbor, and really, the competitor is themselves. They aren’t even being beaten by Michigan. Instead, they’re beating themselves, shooting their foot repeatedly for some odd reason. Oklahoma is going into the first half down 10-0 on the road.
And to make matters worse, Western Michigan made everyone believe that Michigan was a terrible football team. And, they still aren’t great. But what does that say about Oklahoma? This game hasn’t been fun to watch in the first half, and there’s nobody to blame but the Sooners. If they want to come back and win this game, there’s a few things they need to do.
Oklahoma Sooners need to get their act together vs. Michigan
The Wolverines aren’t doing much special. Now, sure, you can say they are forcing the Sooners to run the ball. They know this was one of the worst running teams in the country last year. As a result, OU only has 52 passing yards through the air at the half. They only have 63 rushing yards.
When they decide to pass, Michigan has played it extremely well. Their pass-game plan has been to deny wide receiver Isaiah Sategna even the slightest breathing room. They’ve also put a ton of pressure on Mateer in the pocket. When Mateer is under pressure, he tends to underperform. When he gets outside of the pocket, he makes big-time plays. But he’s not even doing that right now. And of course, there’s the turnover the Sooners have on a fumble by Parker Livingston.
The Sooners have to take care of the ball and stop having so many negative plays. You can’t expect to win a game when you are hurting yourself. When the offensive line is playing bad, the offense as a whole plays bad. The problems just keep trickling down. This is not over yet; the Sooners can still win this game, but it won’t be easy.
