NFL Insider continues to stoke the flames of a potential reunion between Tyreek Hill and the Kansas City Chiefs
A new report suggests that Tyreek Hill and the Kansas City Chiefs could reunite as soon as October. Is the interest mutual? Is Hill even healthy enough to return from his knee injury?
As long as former Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill remains a free agent, he’ll be connected to the club.
Hill, of course, is still recovering from a devastating season-ending knee injury suffered early in the 2025 NFL season. The Miami Dolphins released him this offseason, and he has been working his way back ever since. In late July, Hill admitted that he had no power in his surgically repaired knee, but the 32-year-old has since been making progress.
In Week 2’s “Buzz File” on ESPN, NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler continued to stoke the flames on a potential reunion between the Kansas City Chiefs and Hill.
“Also on the Chiefs front, free agent receiver Tyreek Hill remains fond of the Chiefs, and a potential in-season signing would make a lot of sense,” Fowler wrote. “He should be closer to playing around October.”
While everyone has expected that the Chiefs and Hill could be eyeing a reunion, the timing of this report is suspect. It comes on the heels of a dominant Chiefs victory on “Monday Night Football.” Everyone thinks Kansas City is “back,” and this could simply be a ploy by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to generate interest in Hill.
When will Tyreek Hill be ready and will he return to the Chiefs?
The reality is that no one knows when Hill will be ready to return to football. It’s still entirely possible that he won’t play in 2026. In August, his agent admitted that Hill wasn’t ready to sign with a team. He believes that when Hill is ready, teams will fight for the opportunity to sign him with eyes toward the playoffs.
“When? I’m not sure, but I do think when he does sign, he will be a coveted player,” Rosenhaus said. “He’ll be the kind of guy that will impact the playoff race, and will certainly be successful once he signs.”
While Fowler suggests an October return, Chiefs fans should be skeptical. Hill is still working his way back from a major knee injury. His superpower has been his speed, and it’s tough to say if he’ll ever get back to the same player he once was.
Don’t be shocked if Kansas City keeps tabs on Hill and his recovery. However, if he does return, it could be a slow process. I’d expect them to start slowly, bring him back to the practice squad, and give him plenty of runway to work his way back into football-playing shape.
