Las Vegas Raiders GM John Spytek perfectly describes what’s going on in the building right now to kick off the new regime
The Las Vegas Raiders are kicking off a new regime in the best way possible, and they’re showing that at OTAs right now.
The Las Vegas Raiders are in a position where they could completely flip everything around. They have been a laughing stock in the league for what feels like 20 years, as their last playoff win came even longer than that. But they seem to be doing all of the right things to get this back on track.
Now, we won’t know for sure whether it’s turned around or not until the ned of the season. Or, we could even find out at the midway point of the season if they’re good enough at that point. However, the moves they have made certainly feel like they are on the right path. So, what are they doing right now to ensure it stays that way?
“Continual build. It just never stops,” general manager John Spytek said. “And I think May and June are vitally important — ultimately, the team that shows up for training camp, obviously, especially with a new coaching staff and new scheme. Really, in all three phases right now, there’s a lot of learning going on. There’s not a lot of football, but it was good to see some helmets out there yesterday. And I think your mindset has to be to build continuously every day you show up.”
Raiders have a path to eight wins, but it won’t be easy
For this season to be successful, the Raiders need to reach at least 5 wins. They won just three games last year, so five shouldn’t be that much harder. In my initial predictions, I had the Raiders winning eight games, and I still think that’s possible. However, I have stepped down from that pedestal and now sit in the 6-7-win range given their schedule.
That would still be an improvement, and this season, that’s all anyone is asking for. Win more games than last year, and be competitive in every single game. If anyone else is expecting this team to make the playoffs, that’s just not realistic. Is it impossible? No. However, regardless of what you think this team can do, it’s very obvious they are already better than last season.
