The Las Vegas Raiders released their 2026 schedule video featuring their two new quarterbacks. Fernando Mendoza and Kirk Cousins did something similar to the movie “Step Brothers,” where they acted as step brothers, but with football things. It was a very good video and showed a little insight into their personality. The fan base loved it.

Then, they teased the two even more. But this was not a part of the schedule release video. The Raiders dropped a video of each of their three main QBs throwing in OTAs. It’s safe to say that they know what they’re doing and how to get the attention of their fan base. Obviously, Aiden O’Connell is not really the name fans were looking forward to seeing, since he’s been on the team for three years now.

However, videos in a side-by-side fashion of Mendoza and Cousins, the two who will “be in a battle,” is the perfect way to tease the fan base. And, yes, they are open throws with no pressure put on them and no live play. The receivers are open, too. But, during this time of year, that’s all it takes to get a fan base excited.d.

Honestly, both throws looked great. However, there is some type of aura, I guess would be the best way to describe it, when you watch the Mendoza clip. He just throws the ball so clean, pretty, and effortlessly. It’s art. Cousins’ throwing motion isn’t bad at all. He’s still a good passer, too.

Kirk Cousins is the perfect mentor for Fernando Mendoza

Even after starting as a backup in Atlanta in 2025 and playing 10 games, he performed well in advanced metrics. For instance, he posted an 89.5% Catchable Ball Percentage (seventh-best among players with 100+ attempts) and a 78.1% On Target Percentage (sixth-best), demonstrating strong accuracy.

Kirk Cousins’ stats in 2025

  • 10 games, 8 started
  • 61.7 completion percentage
  • 1,721 passing yards
  • 10 TDs, 5 INTs

There really isn’t a more perfect mentor for Mendoza. They have a similar personality: a goofy, nerdy type of guy, in a good way, of course. And, they are also very big God-fearing men. These things are important because you want to match two QBs who get along, especially when one is the mentor.

We have seen very crappy mentor situations with some very talented QBs in the NFL. That side of things can go bad quickly, and can certainly impact the play of the franchise guy. And, to make the pairing even better, they play the game similarly. So, you can imagine that Mendoza is pretty excited about what’s to come, even if it means he won’t be starting right away.
