The Miami Dolphins are making a change to the roster and it comes from someone they got some extra exposure to last week.
The Miami Dolphins will have no joint practice this week against their final preseason opponent, the Atlanta Falcons. But the dividends from last week’s extra time with New York is giving the Dolphins an extra gift. Even all these days after the fact.
The Dolphins are continuing to churn their roster, dropping one of the disappointing performers from last Saturday’s preseason contest. And, in his place, they’re claiming a Giants receiver who they got an extra look at last week during the practice & preseason game. Tahj Washington has been waived.
Miami Dolphins claim former New York Giants wide receiver Ryan Miller after last week’s joint practice
Washington was a 7th-round draft choice by the Dolphins in 2024. He made his NFL debut with the Dolphins last season against the Carolina Panthers. He logged his first career reception weeks later against the Baltimore Ravens. That reception he subsequently fumbled to set up a short field for the Ravens early in the game.
His last touch with Miami was a fumble, too. Washington was on the receiving end of a Giants punt late in the game on Saturday, which was muffed to set up New York’s final possession.
His spot on the roster goes to former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Giants receiver Ryan Miller. Miller offers a very different kind of skill set for the Dolphins’ pass catchers. Miller is listed at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds and ran a 4.52s 40-yard dash at the South Carolina Pro Day in 2023. His best NFL season to date came in 2024, when he posted 12 receptions for 128 yards and two scores with the Bucs. He’ll have a brief moment in time to earn a 53-man roster spot on the Dolphins’ roster this week — but his status as a newly claimed player certainly suggests Miami sees something there. They certainly got an extra look last week on the practice field.
