Romeo Doubs embraces his role as a player safety model with his latest decision ahead of second game with the Patriots
Veteran wide receiver has been recognized as player-safety leader, and that won’t change anytime soon.
Veteran wide receiver Romeo Doubs was named a Guardian Signature Athlete after signing a partnership with Guardian Sports, the Atlanta-based sports safety equipment company that creates and produces the Guardian Caps. The soft-shell helmet covers are designed to fit over existing football helmets and help reduce impact forces by absorbing and dissipating energy during contact.
Doubs started wearing the Guardian Cap in 2024 when he was still with the Green Bay Packers. That decision drew national attention because the caps were not required during games, but Doubs elected to use one with the intent to improve his safety and avoid head injuries after suffering two concussions during the 2024 season. Doubs shared his thoughts on the new deal with Guardian Sports.
“I’m excited to join the team and put safety at the forefront,” Doubs explained. “I’m protecting myself and ensuring that I can perform at a high level and I would love to see the next generation follow the same path.”
Erin Hanson, CEO and co-founder of Guardian Sports, also spoke about the partnership.

From Green Bay to New England
Doubs was a fourth-round pick by the Packers in 2022 and finished his Green Bay career with 202 receptions, 2,424 yards, and 21 touchdowns. Earlier this year, he signed a four-year, $68 million contract with the New England Patriots in free agency.
In his first game for New England, Doubs was targeted three times and did not record a reception. However, his role with the Patriots could grow significantly in the coming weeks. With wide receiver A.J. Brown placed on injured reserve, Doubs has the potential to become the primary weapon in New England’s passing attack.
The Patriots return to the field at 1 p.m. (ET) on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It will be New England’s regular season home opener at Gillette Stadium, and Doubs will have the chance to face former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the AFC matchup.
