2 winners and 6 losers from Eagles’ meltdown on SNF: Vibes go from bad to worse after Philadelphia gets beaten by Washington
The Philadelphia Eagles came out swinging against the Washington Commanders in primetime before everything fell apart. Only two players earned any credit for their effort, and the list of losers runs much deeper than that.
Just when you think it can’t get any worse for the Philadelphia Eagles, it somehow does. The Eagles fell 27-10 to the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football. Washington entered the night with one win.
Philadelphia has now lost 6 straight games, and this team has never been lower. Here are the Eagles’ winners and losers from a primetime showing that went from promising to ugly in a hurry.
Eagles winners vs. Commanders
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba had an interception and a forced fumble early in the game. In my opinion, it’s fair to say he was the only bright spot on the entire Eagles defense, and that held true all night long. He made great plays, but that was all there was to talk about on that side of the ball.
Saquon Barkley
On offense, Philadelphia had exactly one winner, and it was Saquon Barkley. He punched in an early touchdown run and battled all night through multiple injuries. You could see him visibly in pain on the sideline, yet he kept going back out there for his teammates.
Consider the circumstances. The Eagles were riding a five-game losing streak without their starting quarterback and without two of the offensive linemen who started the season. Barkley didn’t care. He wanted to fight, and he found the end zone. Huge props to him.
Eagles losers vs. Commanders
The offensive line
The Eagles are down Lane Johnson and Cam Jurgens following a retirement and a trade, and it showed. Markell Bell had a rough night and got walked back all game long. The tackles on both sides struggled, and Jordan Mailata didn’t have a great night either. Multiple missed assignments and poor pass protection added up to a bad night for the entire unit.
Tanner McKee
Tanner McKee didn’t help his line out. He lost a fumble on a strip sack when Philadelphia was driving while trailing 13-10. He later took a bad sack on third-and-14 with the Eagles down nine, then essentially threw the game-sealing interception on the next play on fourth down. McKee has struggled ever since Jalen Hurts left with blood clots.
Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell is arguably one of the better cornerbacks in the NFL, but he wasn’t on Sunday night. He drew a bad flag and, on the same play, got beat deep by Treylon Burks. That’s the same Treylon Burks the Tennessee Titans couldn’t get rid of fast enough.
Jake Elliott
Jake Elliott had a chance to cut the deficit to three points and doinked his field goal attempt off the upright. That miss was a microcosm of the Eagles’ season.
The front seven
The front seven continues to struggle. Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and even some of the linebackers deserve their share of the blame. Philadelphia allowed over 100 rushing yards yet again, and that keeps happening week after week.
Commanders rushing stats vs. Eagles
- 32 carries
- 132 rushing yards
- 1 TD
Nick Sirianni
It has to be Nick Sirianni yet again. Last week, it looked like the Eagles had quit on their head coach. This week, they started strong, and for a moment, it looked like they were showing some fight.
Then the Commanders scored and Philadelphia never found its way back. Allowing 27 unanswered points was a horrible showing. The vibes around this team are awful. The body language from Sirianni is awful, and the body language from his players is no better.
The bottom line is that Sirianni has to land on the losers list, and this Eagles team, unfortunately, is a major loser right along with him.
