Florida Gators hit with more brutal news on Monday that will make DJ Lagway’s job even harder moving forward
The Gators continue to get bad news.
The 2025 season can’t come to an end soon enough for the Florida Gators.
From having to fire head coach Billy Napier to multiple games lost that should have been wins, it’s been a difficult one for the Gators. The other aspect of this conversation has been injuries.
The Gators have been devastated by injuries more than most teams this season. It’s by far the biggest reason they have been in a tough spot, especially on the defensive side of the football. The offense is starting to catch up to the defense.
Florida Gators lose another star wide receiver
During his press conference on Monday, interim head coach Billy Gonzales told the media that star wide receiver Eugene Wilson III will have season-ending ankle surgery.
“Eugene is going to have surgery on Wednesday,” said Gonzales on Monday. “He’ll have ankle surgery. He had a high ankle sprain. He’s going to have a tightrope procedure to give him the best opportunity to get back for himself and get ready for spring ball. Tough son of a gun.
It’s a brutal injury for Wilson, who missed the majority of his sophomore season with multiple injuries, including to his hip. This is just another setback after a stellar freshman season in 2023.
“He got hurt during the Georgia game and pushed through it,” continued Gonzales. “Came back in the second half and just battled and talking to the training staff, they said, I’ve not seen a lot of people being able to do what he did, be able to come back and play that second half in with the injury that he had. So, we’re going to get cleaned up, and he’ll have surgery on Wednesday.”
This isn’t the first big injury to the wide receiver corps. Star freshman Dallas Wilson has already been ruled out for the season with a foot injury, leaving a relatively inexperienced receiving corps outside of senior J. Michael Sturdivant. True freshman Vernell Brown III and redshirt sophomore Aidan Mizell will need to step up for starting quarterback DJ Lagway, who himself doesn’t have a clear future right now.

The Florida Gators suffered arguably their worst loss of the season on Saturday night, falling to the Kentucky Wildcats 38-7. It wasn’t just a bad loss; it was brutal across the board. They didn’t have enough focus on both sides of the football, and they were making poor decisions that resulted in big plays for […]
