Oklahoma Sooners on verge of adding crucial piece to begin fixing worst position room on offense ahead of next season
The Oklahoma Sooners could take a key step in solving a massive problem on the roster with a rumored transfer portal addition
The Oklahoma Sooners are locked in on their upcoming College Football Playoff appearance, hoping for a good postseason run to back up a fantastic 10-2 season. However, their focus on the present hasn’t stopped them from looking to the future and pursuing building blocks for next season and beyond.
One of those moves has been hotly pursuing a local product to replenish and kick-start a rebuild in a room that desperately needs a facelift. The Sooners have been trying to add a former standout Oklahoma State playmaker, and it sounds like they are one step closer to making it two years in a row that they have stolen a talented player from the Pokes.
Josh Ford could be a much-needed solution
For most of the season, the Oklahoma Sooners ‘ tight end room has been an abject disaster, completely saved by the move of Jaren Kanak from linebacker. Beyond him, the rest of the room has seldom delivered this season and was a letdown for most of the year.
However, Ford could be a major step toward fixing the room’s direction. Oklahoma needs multiple players in that room for the future, and Ford could be a building block for several seasons. His stats aren’t the best, with only 13 catches and two touchdowns in his career, but he brings good size, athleticism, and competitive toughness to a room in desperate need of it.
Perhaps the most appealing trait for Ford’s fit with the Sooners, however, is his ability as a blocker. The Sooners have had so many runs blown up due to poor blocking by the tight ends this season.
Oklahoma still has to beat out some of the top schools for Ford. Its coaching will have to be addressed in that room, but securing Ford’s commitment would be a massive win in building out its tight end room and would give them at least one starting-caliber tight end on the roster, something that doesn’t seem to be there as it stands.
