Sooners’ defense just got the perfect mental boost for its playoff game against Alabama, and it should scare the rest of the field
David Stone and the rest of the Sooners defensive line are going to give Alabama hell in the playoff.
There are only so many players who can get named to the First, Second, and Third Team All-SEC. Somehow, it feels like everyone who starts on the Oklahoma Sooners defense should be on at least one of those teams. Only, and I realize how funny this is about to read, four defensive players made an All-SEC team. Only two players on the defensive line made it.
The All-SEC members from the Sooners are as follows: First team: edge rusher R Mason Thomas, kicker Tate Sandell, and punter Grayson Miller. Second team: wide receiver Isaiah Sategna, offensive lineman Febechi Nwaiwu, defensive end Taylor Wein, safety Peyton Bowen, and long snapper Ben Anderson. Third team: cornerback Eli Bowen and tight end Jaren Kanak.
Everyone who was voted for is very deserving. However, we cannot act like guys like David Stone Jr., Gracen Halton, Damonic Williams, and Jayden Jackson don’t deserve to be on there, especially Stone and Halton. They didn’t get put on, and they certainly noticed it.
David Stone Jr. sends out a message that should scare Alabama
Stone Jr. saw the rankings and just sent out a tweet that said, “bet,” as if he’s taking notes. This is only going to wake up this entire defense even more. Kip Lewis, Kendal Daniels, Courtland Guillory, Owen Heinecke, and maybe a few others deserve a spot alongside Stone Jr.
The SEC just made a lot of Oklahoma players mad, and the rest of the playoff field shouldn’t want that, especially the Alabama Crimson Tide. Oklahoma has the best defense in the country. The Sooners are where they are because of their defense and special teams.
His stats aren’t anything crazy, but Stone still deserves to be on there. If you’re watching the games, you know what kind of impact he is having on the game. The guy is double-teamed all the time, and still finds a way to get tackles for loss in the run game and pressure the quarterback in the pass game. He is a huge reason guys like Wein and Thomas can get sacks because of the attention he demands.
You can bet that guys like Stone Jr. will make it an emphasis to be on an All-SEC team next season.
