Oklahoma Sooners are hosting a transfer portal linebacker who played for a blue-blood program last season
The Sooners are in need of a linebacker.
The transfer portal is officially open, and the Oklahoma Sooners are going to be active. One of the positions we know they will be targeting is linebacker. They’re already scheduling a visit with a Bowling Green LB, and are currently hosting former Michigan Wolverines LB Cole Sullivan, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
The Sooners desperately need to add an LB, or two, through the portal. With Sullivan on a visit, it’s clear the Sooners like what he could bring to the position group. They’ll need to decide on LB additions and any other positional changes before Jan. 16, when the portal closes. Sullivan could be a good fit for OU.
Sooners like what they have seen from former Michigan LB Cole Sullivan
Sullivan was pretty good at Michigan this last season. In the limited time he played, Sullivan finished with 44 tackles and three interceptions. The way he was used at Michigan would lead many to believe his role at Oklahoma may be as a coverage linebacker, similar to how Venables used Kobie McKinzie at times.
The soon-to-be third-year linebacker is 6’3, 225 pounds. Given his experience in the Big Ten, there wouldn’t be any concerns about him making the switch to the SEC, unlike potential Group of Five players that teams go after in the portal.
With Kip Lewis possibly leaving for the NFL Draft, McKinzie set to enter the transfer portal, and Owen Heinecke seeking another year of NCAA eligibility, the Sooners need an LB. The former lacrosse player at Heinecke could come back but needs an eligibility waiver, as he played only three games a few years ago, and the NCAA is counting that against him. Oklahoma also has Jacob Curry, Beau Jandreau, and Kristan Moore coming in at linebacker from their 2026 class.
Sullivan, if he’s good, could be a player they keep around for 2027, too.
