The Oklahoma Sooners will need to target a few wide receivers in the transfer portal this offseason. They have already lost several of their weapons, whether to the portal, eligibility, or the 2026 NFL Draft. If quarterback John Mateer returns next season, OU will need to surround him with as many weapons as possible. They could accomplish this by pursuing former Alabama Crimson Tide WR Cole Adams.

Building on their need for receivers, Oklahoma strongly pursued Cole Adams, a former four-star wide receiver and Owasso, Oklahoma native, during his high school recruitment. Adams chose Alabama, with OU as his runner-up. The Sooners appear interested in Adams again, especially if they do not land former Texas Longhorns WR Parker Livingston.

Given their current roster needs, Adams can be a receiver the Sooners use right away in 2026, especially with what this offense will need the most.

Who is former Alabama wide receiver Cole Adams?

The loss of Cole Adams was a notable one for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was the team’s starting punt returner, and while he didn’t get a ton of run in the passing game, you could see his agility and explosion every time he touched the football. He’s not a traditional slot WR that will run deep in cuts or clear out routes.

What he is however, is an excellent return option, and even better a perfect fit in Ben Arbuckle’s scheme. A heavy RPO passing attack, Adams can run those glance routes to a tee while adding an insurance policy to the Sooners’ WR room. So if it is, in fact, Adams for OU, he’s not one of the big fish in the portal, but he is a good option for any offense looking to find a reliable receiver and return man. – Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports Alabama
