Oklahoma Sooners steal star wide receiver from hated rival Longhorns who will be John Mateer’s favorite weapon next season
The Oklahoma Sooners have flipped a talented playmaker, Parker Livingstone from hated rival Texas Longhorns, to bolster their offense.
The Oklahoma Sooners are on fire to start the transfer portal period, as they have landed several key additions out of the portal to bolster their offense so far.
They already plucked two starters away from other SEC schools and added an All-Conference playmaker at wide receiver to surround John Mateer in an effort to make another College Football Playoff run in 2026. However, their latest addition could be their biggest, given the storylines surrounding the player and his former team.
Parker Livingstone spurns Longhorns for the Sooners
According to multiple Longhorns writers, Parker Livingstone, one of Texas’s leading wide receivers this past season, was pushed out by the Longhorns so they could free up money to pursue “bigger names” in the transfer portal. That’s a bold strategy, especially considering Livingstone was a Longhorn through and through, who was very close to Arch Manning, as the two were roommates.
The last paragraph of Livingstone’s transfer announcement states something I’ll admit I haven’t seen too often. “Never in a million years did I think I would be going into the portal looking for a new home. Some things are out of my control. Such is the reality of the ever-changing landscape of college football.” This isn’t a player who wanted to leave the Longhorns.
Naturally, the Sooners were going to be interested in a player with something out to prove against their hated rival in Texas. Given their need to add multiple players at wide receiver, adding Livingstone, a proven producer in the SEC, made sense.
He would be a fantastic addition to the wide receiver room and would give them something they don’t really have in the room. The 6-4 perimeter threat has showcased terrific hands and vertical speed to threaten defenses down the field, along with his huge frame. Him and newest addition Trell Harris completely change the offense from how it looked in 2025.
With the additions of Livingstone and Trell Harris, I think the Sooners are likely done at wide receiver, at least among big names. They’ve been connected to a handful of other names in the portal, but unless Isaiah Sategna goes off to the NFL or some other names leave the room, it seems like they have their top of the roster set, with Livingstone, Harris, and Sategna at the top with Javonnie Gibson, Elijah Thomas, Zion Kearney, and Jacob Jordan in behind them.
