We are barely six months into the tenure of Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall, and it’s been a great ride thus far.

After watching Billy Napier struggle with recruiting, Sumrall focused hard on hiring the right staff to maximize the recruiting process. It’s paid major dividends, as the Gators go into the depths of official visit season with the No.5 overall class for 2027. Just this week, the Gators have landed four-star offensive tackle Kennedee Jackson and four-star defensive lineman Zahmar Tookes.

Florida Gators 2027 Recruiting Class

  • With 19 commitments thus far, the Gators have the No. 5 recruiting class per Rivals.
  • Led by five-star offensive lineman and No. 3 overall recruit Maxwell Hiller, the Gators have four offensive linemen in the top 10 at their positions.
  • They are still pursuing multiple five-star flips, including Texas Tech commit DL Jalen Brewster and Texas commit WR Easton Royal.

Florida Gators lead the charge to land four-star LB Ellis McGaskin

The linebacker position is one that has been a big focus as of late, especially after landing four-star Ja’Bois Smith. Another one of their big targets is four-star linebacker Ellis McGaskin, who was formerly committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Reports surfaced that McGaskin is going to announce his recruitment on Saturday, June 6th, deciding between the Gators, LSU Tigers, and Florida State Seminoles.

The Gators right now have the lead for McGaskin per the Rivals’ Recruiting Prediction Machine with a whopping 85.7%. Linebackers coach Greg Gasparato has been the lead recruiter for McGaskin, who had a really good junior season. He notched 160 total tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and four sacks for Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama.

He would be the 20th commit and the ninth on the defensive side of the football, and potentially round out the linebacker class for 2027. That would get the Gators in a great spot going into the summer months.
