The 2027 recruiting class for the Florida Gators is shaping up really nicely and head coach Jon Sumrall‘s impact has been immense. They have attacked multiple areas of the roster to fortify it long-term, and they have finally turned their attention to the linebacker position.

During their first summer official visit weekend, Sumrall has already landed his first commitment in four-star linebacker Ja’Bios Smith out of Swainsboro, Georgia, beating out the likes of the Georgia Bulldogs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Texas A&M Aggies.

Florida Gators Commit Four-Star LB Ja’Bios Smith

  • Smith is one the highest linebacker targets for the Florida Gators
  • The Rivals’ Industry Ranking ranks Smith as the No. 11 linebacker and No. 138 overall recruit in the nation.
  • Smith is the 17th commit for the Florida Gators, and the first linebacker in the class of 2027.

Florida Gators land commitment from four-star LB Ja’Bios Smith

Earlier this week, the Gators received multiple expert predictions for Smith to land in Gainesville and he pulled the trigger on Friday. It’s a big win for the Gators who didn’t have a linebacker in the 2027 recruiting class. Smith is a smart, instinctual player who isn’t afraid to get aggressive in the running game. He will be a nice complement to the group of defensive lineman and secondary players the Gators currently have.

He’s also not the only linebacker the Gators have targeted, as it’s seemingly becoming a top priority.

Sumrall now has 17 commitments in the class of 2027.
