Elite five-star Ohio State commit DJ Jacobs is saying the things that’ll have Buckeye Nation feeling good about his status
There’s been some worries of schools like Miami or Tennessee trying to sneak in and flip five-star Ohio State football commit DJ Jacobs. Those worries continue to shrink as time goes on, and with what Jacobs is saying about his status with the Buckeyes.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have heated up on the recruiting trail as of late, and as a result, they have what looks like a strong class to this point.
Out of Ohio State’s 17 commitments, no recruit is more important than Blessed Trinity Catholic (GA) No. 1 EDGE DJ Jacobs. The Buckeyes have had Jacobs in their class since December of last year, but it hasn’t stopped other programs from trying to sway his commitment.
Jacobs took an official visit to Columbus in mid-June, and he came away from it feeling as good as he ever has about his commitment.
DJ Jacobs’ commitment to Ohio State sounds firm with Miami and Tennessee still lurking
“It’s the same every time,” Jacobs said of his visit, via Rivals. “I love it even more. Every time I am there, it feels like home and it is just great to be there.”
As potentially the best player in the class of 2027, keeping Jacobs in the picture is a top goal for the Buckeyes this cycle. You can put it ahead of them landing five-star RB David Gabriel Georges, if that happens. Jacobs has true game-changer potential right away in college and it’s why Larry Johnson has recruited him so hard.
“They’re not recruiting me any differently,” Jacobs said, via Rivals. “I told them I’m locked in, and I just love them, but they stay the same. The communication is great, they always check me, and everything is still going great.”
“It’s the people in the building,” Jacobs added. “They make it awesome. My dad always told me to go somewhere you’d still want to be even on the bad days, and that’s Ohio State for me.”
Miami and Tennessee are the two schools making the biggest push for Ohio State’s top commitment. Georgia and Oregon are two other schools trying to stay in the mix as well.
DJ Jacobs is leading an elite defensive haul for Ohio State
Keeping Jacobs in this class would be the cherry on top of Ohio State’s defensive line haul this year. Jacobs is joined by high four-star EDGE Wyatt Smith. Ohio State is the favorite to land five-star DL Marcus Fakatou on Monday, and they’re in good position to be the school that four-star DL Karlos May chooses.
Ohio State’s 74-year-old defensive line coach is still an elite recruiter and he’s really flexing it this go-around. Johnson keeping Jacobs in the class for what will equate to a year before he signs would be one of his best wins yet.
