Bill Bedenbaugh is trying to land a commitment from one of his former players’ sons, who is now an old rival of the Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners could get some more commits in their 2029 recruiting class, and Carson Campbell could be that guy.
The Oklahoma Sooners are one of the premier offensive line schools in NFL history. Bill Bedenbaugh, the offensive line coach, has sent maybe the most offensive linemen to the NFL in the last 20 years.
And, he’s still sharp on his game. Right now, he’s trying to land a 2029 recruit, but not just any recruit. Everyone knows who Cody Campbell is, right? He’s a former Texas Tech player, now a big-time donor and board member for the Big 12 school. He’s a huge reason they’ve been as successful as they have. Bedenbaugh coached him at Texas Tech, and now Bedenbaugh is recruiting his son, Carson Campbell.
“I’ve heard stories,” Carson Campbell told On3 regarding Bill Bedenbaugh. “They would, like, get into fights and stuff. It’s a little bit different game. You can’t do that anymore… [But] I love him. What I’ve heard is, he’s kind of mellowed out. Because he coached my dad, and he was pretty hard on him. But I’ve heard he mellowed out. My dad and I still think he’s one of the premier O-line coaches, maybe the premier O-line coach, in the country. So I mean, it’s a pretty good way to get developed.”
Carson Campbell has already seen Bill Bedenbaugh coach in person
The Oklahoma Sooners develop the offensive line at an elite level. That’s because of Bedenbaugh and the way he coaches. Carson Campbell has already seen some of that, and it has to be a bit intriguing.
“After the camp in June, me and a couple guys went to go watch practice afterward,” He said to On3. “So I got to see that. It wasn’t like a full practice; they were doing no pads. They didn’t do good-on-good or anything like that. But it was still good to see. [Bedenbaugh’s] intense, man… I actually haven’t seen Norman, honestly. That’s something I need to do when I go back up there for a game this year, which I will. But yeah, I’ve just kinda been in and out [of town], which is not the best way to do it.”
The Sooners don’t currently have anyone committed to their 2029 recruiting class. It’s still a long way out. Campbell is 6’3, 280 pounds. He’s a 2029 recruit, so he doesn’t have a ranking yet. But the Sooners obviously like him a ton.
