Gators HC Jon Sumrall provides multiple injury updates after Saturday’s win that could impact the team in two weeks vs. Auburn
The Florida Gators are much healthier now than they were at this point last season, but injuries are still prevalent.
The Florida Gators smoked the Florida Atlantic Owls on Saturday night with a 66-21 victory, and they made it look easy. Quarterback Aaron Philo led the Gators to their first 600-yard performance since they put 70 points against Samford in Dan Mullen’s last season as head coach of the Gators.
One thing that’s been huge for them early on has been the health of the roster. It’s something that they didn’t have at the beginning of the season last year, and it’s much better under Jon Sumrall. Even so, things aren’t perfect.
Florida Gators have injury issues
One of the biggest injury issues the Gators have right now is at wide receiver. True freshman Davian Groce missed the game with a back injury, and will likely miss Saturday’s game against Campbell. Unfortunately, they will also likely be without Eric Singleton Jr.
“I would say right now Eric Singleton is highly questionable for this week,” said Sumrall, “Emmanuel [Oyebadejo] is also highly questionable. Very similar injuries. I’m not. They’re not out today, but they’re just they they were out at practice some, but not able to participate, and so we won’t really know till probably middle to later in the week what their real availability is, but they’re definitely not probable as of right now.”
Oyebadejo played 24 snaps on the defensive line and was excellent, earning four pressures along the way. The other interesting injury for the Gators is backup left tackle Eagan Boyer. After losing the left tackle battle, he didn’t dress on Saturday night, but likely does against Campbell.
“Eagan should be back this week, “said Sumrall. “He was at practice today and active. I think tomorrow is going to be full go.”
Things aren’t perfect for the Gators, but it’s not a massive list of injuries. What’s important is players like Singleton are healthy for next week’s matchup with the Auburn Tigers. Not having Singleton, who may be their best receiver, could be a massive loss for the Gators.
