The Oklahoma Sooners went to Ann Arbor and showed who they really are. The whole country expected them to win. And sure, maybe some of that is because of what we saw last week from Michigan rather than what they thought of OU.

Either way, the Sooners let everyone down. They did so by shooting themselves in the foot time and time again. So, there were certainly some “losers” in this game, since, you know, they lost. But there were also some winners, surprisingly. Let’s break those down.

Winners and losers after Sooners’ loss to Michigan

Winner: Grayson Miller, P

The MVP of the game for OU. If they had won, I would have personally hand-delivered a game ball to Miller. How many punts did he have that were just spectacular? All of them. He had two punts downed within five yards. One came later in the fourth quarter, giving his defense a chance. The defense then got a chance and forced a punt. Then gave the offense a chance just to fail. Miller showed up and did his job to perfection.

Loser: John Mateer, QB

This is the talk of the town now. Mateer convinced everyone his injury was the reason he played bad. He convinced everyone that his issues were fixed because he worked hard this offseason. Maybe he proves that later. But on Saturday, he was terrible. He would probably be the first to tell you that, too. He had the near pick-six, the sack to lose the game, and just some really terrible throws. The Sooners need better quarterback play. Sure, the offensive line was bad at times. But other times it was fine, and he looked extremely uncomfortable. 10 has to be better. He has to. He reverted to his old ways too often.

Winner: Rocky Beers, TE

Beers had another huge game. It’s starting to show that Beers is the tight end in this offense. He can run blocks, and he can catch the ball. He had some big-time plays in this game, and it felt like at times he was the only receiver who could really separate from the defenders. They have to find more ways to get him open in the middle of the field.

Loser: Entire Offensive Line

I know there were injuries, but the way the offensive line played was just so inexcusable. As we already said- yes, they were bad in terms of pocket protection. But on the plays they weren’t bad; they would get a penalty. There were so many penalties called on the offensive line this game that I lost count. They have to be better, and the depth has to step up when guys like Michael Fasusi are out.

Winner: Omarion Robinson, DB

Robinson has patiently awaited his time, and he came through big on Saturday. Robinson had a big pass deflection on the sideline a few times and did a good job pushing his receivers around without getting too aggressive and drawing a penalty. He was also brought down into the box a few times and did his job there. He had a few stops in the fourth quarter that gave the OU offense a chance again. Robinson played great.

Loser: Courtland Guillory, CB

Guillory had at least two bad pass interference calls I can remember off the top of my head, maybe more. He was kind of pushed around in this game. He played the entire game and only had one tackle. So, just a bad outing by a guy we all know has the potential to be a top CB in the SEC.
