Penn State football HC Matt Campbell is still not holding back in his assessment of his team even after the 55-13 win over Buffalo
The Penn State Nittany Lions are 3-0 after a big home win over Buffalo. But Matt Campbell still isn’t happy.
The Penn State Nittany Lions started the game slowly, once again. Against Temple, Matt Campbell’s team failed to get into the end zone on a goal-line situation to start the game. In this game, a similar situation started the offense, and Campbell couldn’t have been happy.
After a three-and-out that the defense forced. The Nittany Lions got a great punt return to the middle of the field. They then kicked a 48-yard field goal to start the game. They couldn’t move the ball any further. After the game, which ended with Penn State winning 55-13, Campbell shared some words about his team.
“Yeah, we were okay,” Campbell said after the game. “There’s still a lot of room for growth. There were a lot of penalties today. One of the things we want is to be disciplined, and I didn’t think they were very disciplined today… I think our process. To me, it’s still about how you practice on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. If we can keep doing that and keep growing forward, we have an opportunity to do that, and that’s what really good teams do.”
Penn State figured out their offense quickly
The Nittany Lions started the game slowly, but it wasn’t for long. Obviously, they finished with 55 points. But every aspect of the offense was good. They had some issues with penalties, and they weren’t exactly clean on offense. But they ran the ball very well at times, and they certainly threw it well.
Wide receiver Koby Howard was the star of the show. He had three catches for 115 yards and a receiving touchdown. He also scored a rushing TD on a 20-yard run. He was unstoppable and continues to show he can be a legit star in college football.
The run game found its way. Penn State finished with 304 rushing yards in this game. Quinton Martin Jr. led the way with 100 rushing yards on 10 carries. The game also featured five rushing touchdowns. We are seeing improvement from this team in the areas where they have needed it most. And it’s largely because of how Campbell demands excellence from his team.
