Penn State football HC Matt Campbell was clearly not happy after the win over Temple, and he let everyone know why
The Penn State Nittany Lions won their game over the Temple Owls in Philly, but things didn’t look great to start.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are now 2-0 after a win over an in-state opponent, the Temple Owls. However, the win didn’t quite look how it should have. This is Penn State football.
There is a standard, even without a National Championship in the James Franklin era. Regardless, Matt Campbell runs his program in a way you have to respect. So, when he’s pissed after a win against the Temple Owls, there’s a good reason. They started slowly, and it didn’t look good. That just can’t happen.
“I don’t think there’s any explanation other than we didn’t play very well,” Campbell said of Penn State’s slow start Saturday and their 27-9 win. “We’ve got to be better if we want to be the team we want to become.”

The Penn State Nittany Lions were in a goal-to-go situation on first down in the first quarter. They somehow walked away with zero points. So, you can imagine why Campbell was so upset. Those should have resulted in points, especially against opponents like this. Somehow they got it figured out, and Rocco Becht and co. looked decent thereafter. Still, you need to score more than 29 total points in a game against Temple, where you could be considered the home team, as you’re playing in Philly.
If they have games like that in conference play, they won’t make it out. Now, luckily, the Nittany Lions have one of the easiest schedules in the country. Their two toughest games will be against USC and the Michigan Wolverines on the road. In conference play, you cannot afford to start slow. They have to figure out the rushing attack. They have to score points when the opportunities arise.
