‘I like the momentum Kentucky has right now’ – ESPN’s Cole Cubelic predicts who will win the LSU vs Kentucky matchup
The LSU Tigers will travel to Lexington this weekend for a matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats.
The last time that LSU played in Lexington, it didn’t go very well for the Tigers.
LSU lost 41-21 on the road to Kentucky in 2021. It was the second straight SEC loss for the Tigers under then head coach Ed Orgeron. It was a loss that all but sealed the fate of Orgeron (especially after he admitted that LSU’s defensive line got out-physicaled).
The Tigers will return to Lexington this weekend for a matchup against the Wildcats. And while no players remain on the roster from the 2021 LSU team, I’m sure head coach Lane Kiffin will use the loss to Kentucky in 2021 as motivation.
ESPN’s Cole Cubelic shares how he thinks the LSU vs Kentucky game will play out
ESPN’s Cole Cubelic shared some thoughts this week on the LSU vs Kentucky matchup.
Cubelic noted that he likes the momentum that Kentucky has right now, but he doesn’t think the Wildcats can consistently pressure Tigers quarterback Sam Leavitt.
“I like this game being at Kroger Field,” said Cubelic. “I like the momentum Kentucky has right now. The problem is that Kentucky can’t get to the quarterback, and I think Sam Leavitt has gotten better in the pocket — he was forced to (get better in the pocket) with the hamstring two weeks ago against Texas A&M. And he did it again last week.
“[Leavitt] being able to find success from the pocket and Kentucky not being able to get home, that’s going to be a problem. And LSU is going to score. So I think LSU gets the win. I’m not going to touch the 8.5 (points) there that LSU is favored by, but I may like the over 51.5 in this game.”
LSU and Kentucky will kick off at 6:00 PM CT/7:00 PM ET on Saturday. The game will air on ESPN.
