The South Carolina Gamecocks need a lot of help to reach the College Football Playoff.

South Carolina, which is currently 4-3, obviously needs to win out to have any shot at making the 12-team tournament.

The Gamecocks also need quite a few teams ahead of them to lose.

According to the A to Z Sports CFP predictor, South Carolina currently has an 18 percent chance of making the playoff if they win out.

South Carolina needs a lot of chaos

South Carolina essentially needs every two-loss SEC team to lose at least another game, among other outcomes that Gamecocks fans should be rooting for.

Here are the outcomes that South Carolina fans need to root for in Week 9:

  • Arizona to beat Texas Tech (Both teams have only one loss, but Texas Tech is currently ranked higher)
  • Navy to beat Notre Dame
  • Syracuse to beat SMU
  • Auburn to beat Ole Miss
  • Arizona State to beat BYU
  • Georgia to beat Florida
  • Minnesota to beat Indiana
  • Oregon to beat Northwestern
  • Virginia to beat Wake Forest
  • Nevada to beat UCLA
  • Iowa State to beat Oklahoma State
  • Mississippi State to beat Texas
  • Ohio State to beat USC
  • Arkansas to beat Missouri

South Carolina currently has a 2 percent chance to make the playoff. If the Gamecocks beat Oklahoma this week and all of the above results happen, those chances jump to 12 percent.

So, it’s a longshot, but South Carolina isn’t dead quite yet.
