Latest injury update on Kansas City Chiefs rookie CB Mansoor Delane suggests he dodged a bullet in Week 1 win over Broncos
Kansas City Chiefs rookie CB Mansoor Delane has been undergoing testing on his shoulder injury. X-ray and CT scans have come back negative, per NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to get good news on rookie CB Mansoor Delane’s status after Week 1’s injury.
Delane was knocked out of his NFL debut against the Denver Broncos with a shoulder injury. It happened on the same play he recorded his first career interception. NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reported earlier that X-ray results came back negative on Tuesday. Now, his colleague, Ian Rapoport, has the latest update on the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
“Yeah, Mansoor Delane deserves all of that praise, but he did spend the day getting tests done on that shoulder,” Rapoport began. “Of course, made the interception, landed on that shoulder, and actually suffered an injury earlier in the spring and summer on that scapula, landed right on that. He’s had some tests. So X-ray negative. That is a good sign. CT scan negative. Not out of the woods yet, but there’s a lot of positivity that this is a short-term injury.”
Rapoport also spoke on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, confirming that the injury Delane dealt with this spring was a hairline fracture on his scapula. He added the following on X: “The belief is Mansoor Delane should miss minimal time with his shoulder injury. Some good news.”
Playing in Week 2 still isn’t out of the question for Kansas City Chiefs rookie CB Mansoor Delane
Earlier today, the hope was that Delane escaped with only a minor injury, potentially a shoulder sprain. The big concern is that he experienced numbness and tingling in his shoulder, which prompted the team to remove him from the game for further examination.
The Chiefs do have a short week to practice and prepare for the Indianapolis Colts on “Sunday Night Football.” The team will be back at practice on Wednesday, and Delane’s status will be key. If the injury is truly minor, he may start the week with a limited practice to work his way up to full participation.
Ultimately, the good news here is that this doesn’t seem to be a reaggravation of the fractured scapula. It also doesn’t seem to be the type of injury that would keep Delane out for very long, if at all.
