Kansas City Chiefs rookie CB Mansoor Delane’s exciting start to Week 1 vs. Broncos just took an unfortunate turn
The Kansas City Chiefs rookie had about as hot of a start as you could ask for, but things took an unfortunate turn for Mansoor Delane.
Kansas City Chiefs rookie CB Mansoor Delane got off to a hot start in his first career NFL game, but it just took an unfortunate turn.
On just the fourth play of the game, Delane recorded his first career interception. It was a five-yard return and set the Chiefs up for a 10-play, 46-yard touchdown drive. He became just the sixth player since 1991 to record an interception on the first drive of his career, joining former Chiefs CB Marcus Peters. It was about as good of a start as you could ask for if you’re the 2026 NFL Draft pick.
Unfortunately, Delane’s time on the field didn’t last in his debut game.
Chiefs rookie CB Mansoor Delane questionable to return with a shoulder injury
Chiefs CB Mansoor Delane exited the game at some point during the Broncos’ second drive. He was replaced by CB Kristian Fulton on plays that saw three cornerbacks on the field. The No. 6 overall pick was hardly evaluated on the sideline and went back to the locker room to be evaluated for the shoulder injury.
The big concern here is that this could be a repeat injury. Delane previously dealt with a shoulder injury early in training camp; he suffered the injury during OTAs and missed mandatory minicamp. That injury kept him out until Week 2 of the preseason, and it looked like something he’d put in the past. That doesn’t appear to be the case.
Chiefs LB Cooper McDonald also questionable to return with a knee injury
An additional injury on the defensive side of the ball, Chiefs LB Cooper McDonald was ruled questionable to return to the game with a knee injury. McDonald hurt his knee on the ensuing kickoff after the Chiefs’ touchdown drive.
We’ll see whether either player can return, but as things stand, it’s not looking good for a Week 1 return.
