Everyone seems to be forgetting who Patrick Mahomes is, you know, the three-time Super Bowl winner in just his first seven seasons as a starter. The man who has oftentimes willed the Kansas City Chiefs to wins when it looked impossible, and the only player ever to be in the same conversation as Tom Brady.
People seem to be forgetting who that man is because of a few things. One, the Chiefs just lost a Super Bowl, so it's normal for others to forget about the loser of the Super Bowl. But two, Mahomes has posted some vulnerable pictures now in the offseason. These pictures show his actual body and how he looks underneath the pads.
And, no, he's not shredded or ripped; we have all known that. He does have a dad bod — we have all known that, too. But, there are some radio hosts out there, and we won't say any names, that seem to be taking shots at Mahomes in a vile way. That's one thing, because Mahomes can handle the noise, but to doubt that he won't be the same player again, or that he's getting worse, is actually insane.
ESPN's Peter Schrager took time out of his show on Get Up to remind everyone who Mahomes is, and he did it in the most perfect way possible, with a pretty amazing closing statement.
As training camps open, the two lasting images in the last five months for the Kansas City Chiefs are the one of the two time defending Super Bowl champions shuffling off that Superdome field in a few green, white confetti after being embarrassed in the Super Bowl by the Philadelphia Eagles and well, their quarterback with his shirt off at a party and not exactly looking like a Hemsworth brother. But, for all the dad bod jokes and all the memes and all the local sports radio hot takes that came with this image, came something else, and that's more fuel to the fire. It's the part of Patrick Mahomes' arsenal that's maybe the most underappreciated and overlooked. This dude is a stone-cold killer, and whether he admits it or not, he sees and hears everything. So, while the rest of the football world was crowning Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson a year ago, it was Mahomes who was watching, listening, and nodding along as he secured home-field advantage and launched his team right through the third straight Super Bowl. See, Patrick Mahomes is still the greatest player in the sport, and now he's something even scarier. He's motivated more than ever before, so enjoy the memes and the dad bod jokes in July, I'll be taking Mahomes in January.
The Chiefs lost the Super Bowl, yes, but that doesn't mean that the dynasty is over. I mean, they did just go to the Super Bowl. They still have the best player in football, and maybe the best player to ever play the game. They still have the best head coach in football.
And, their roster is definitely better than the one they had last year. This team is ready to keep rolling, and Mahomes is only going to have more of a chip on his shoulder than maybe ever before.
