The Miami Hurricanes are pushing hard for the #1 overall recruit in the 2026 class, and it appears their efforts have paid off substantially.
According to On3 Sports, five-star OT Jackson Cantwell (Nixa, MO) has six finalists, and the Hurricanes are among them.
What's more, On3 noted additionally that not only is Miami a finalist, but they're also one of the three frontrunners right now for his services, along with Georgia and Mario Cristobal's former school – Oregon.
The Hurricanes got Cantwell down to Coral Gables for a visit back in late March, and it appears as though their efforts have paid off.
But after all, Cristobal's work with true freshman at his various stops seeing instant action and making an impact are well documented, particularly going back to his time at Alabama in 2013. Crimson Tide OL Jonah Williams and Cam Robinson made a quick impact, as did All-Pro Lions OT Penei Sewell at Oregon. Anez Cooper in 2022 and Francis Mauigoa in 2024 started as true freshman for the Hurricanes and have been a key part of helping the Canes turn around a struggling ground game from the early part of the 2020s.
That being said, Cantwell's talent is rare, and he should be able to find himself on the field in a starting role at most of his finalists.
It sounds like we could find out soon enough whether Cristobal has done enough to earn the chance to work with yet another true freshman standout with a very likely bright future in the NFL.
