Toronto and Buffalo share a deep history, and sports fans in the two cities often share rooting interests across sports. Those fans that are in the middle of that cross section are incredibly happy today. Josh Allen is the league MVP and locked in for the forseeable future, and after years of trying to convince an elite talent to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays, they got a massive longterm extension done with one of their own, inking Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a massive 14-year, $500 million contract.
Josh Allen and Vlad Guerrero will be the faces of their respective towns for a long, long time.
The above clip of Allen and Guerrero was from May of 2023, Allen went up to Toronto and took part in some batting practice. In typical Allen fashion, being the super athlete that he is, Allen went on to hit four home runs, including one reaching the second deck in left field.
Allen signed a contract reset for six years, $330 million, with $250 million of it guaranteed. He and the Bills are looking to take a massive step forward after failing to get past the Chiefs in the playoffs for the fourth time in five years.
Allen's new contract is one of a handful of contract extensions that general manager Brandon Beane took care of this offseason, getting new deals done with linebacker Terrel Bernard, wide receiver Khalil Shakir, lead cornerback Christian Benford, and edge rusher Greg Rousseau.
The one deal that has yet to get done is running back James Cook, with Beane saying it isn't likely a contract gets done this season. The two sides don't seem close on reaching an agreement.
Beane has a big draft ahead of him, holding 10 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft and with several crucial needs to address. For fans of Buffalo and the Toronto Blue Jays, at least they know that they have their two biggest stars locked up for the foreseeable future.
