Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft is officially over for the Philadelphia Eagles, who traded up one spot to draft Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell at No. 31 overall.
The pick checks off one of the several roster needs for the Eagles. As we head into Day 2 of the draft on Friday, here are the four biggest roster needs Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and co. should be eyeing (in no particular order).
1. Safety
The Eagles' already thin safety depth took another hit with Avonte Maddox heading to the Detroit Lions. However, the most significant blow came when C.J. Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Houston Texans.
While the team still has Reed Blankenship, Tristin McCollum, Andre Sam, Sydney Brown, and Lewis Cine in the mix, none, aside from Blankenship, really stand out as proven impact players.
2. Cornerback
The Eagles are leaning on young talents Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean to anchor the cornerback position—and that’s hardly a bad thing. Still, after losing both Isaiah Rodgers and Darius Slay in free agency, adding a veteran presence wouldn’t hurt.
3. Offensive Guard
With Mekhi Becton no longer on the roster, the Eagles are once again heading into the offseason in search of a right guard.
Tyler Steen is still in the mix, and the recent addition of Kenyon Green gives them another option, but when it comes to the offensive line and overall, the longtime strength of the team, getting the right fit is crucial.
4. EDGE
The Eagles lost Josh Sweat in NFL free agency and watched Brandon Graham officially retire after their Super Bowl LIX run.
That leaves the Eagles needing to draft an edge rusher to reinforce a position that’s both aging and lacking long-term depth and talent.
Howie Roseman is a big fan of prioritizing the trenches and shouldn't have a problem landing the one they want in a draft class that runs deep at the position.
5. Tight End
Rumor has it that the Eagles are trying to trade veteran tight end Dallas Goedert this weekend.
If that's the case, then they're going to need another tight end to replace not only Goedert's pass-catching abilities but also his blocking skills.
Philadelphia Eagles 2025 NFL Draft Picks
Here are the Eagles' 2025 Draft picks as of right now following Day 1:
- Round 1, Pick 31: LB Jihaad Campbell, Alabama
- Round 2, Pick 64
- Round 3, Pick 96
- Round 4, Pick 134
- Round 5, Pick 161 (from Houston)
- Round 5, Pick 165 (from Washington)
- Round 5, Pick 168
Eagles bet against the odds and make a familiar gamble with defender who could become a Pro Bowler in first round of the draft
Howie Roseman loves taking risks.
