Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett met with the local media for the first time on Friday since signing the massive extension that will keep him in Cleveland through 2030.
One common talking point was around the quarterback position and improving the roster. Cleveland made a trade for QB Kenny Pickett, but will still make at least two more moves at the quarterback position.
One player who Garrett is helping recruit to Cleveland is free agent QB Russell Wilson, who visited the team on Thursday and is set to meet with the New York Giants today.
Myles Garrett sends his pitch to Pro Bowl QB Russell Wilson
Garrett was asked what his pitch was to Wilson to get him in Cleveland. It was an honest answer and one that fans will love.
"What's my pitch? I won't take him to the ground 3 [or] 4 times a year,” Garrett said on Friday.
Garrett had three sacks in the first game against Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. That game was just one of three wins that Cleveland was able to grab in 2024. In the second matchup between the two, Garrett tallied his fourth sack of the former Steelers quarterback.
The highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL believes that Cleveland’s meeting with Wilson went well
"I think it went well. He and I had a conversation at the Pro Bowl and here. I definitely think he'd be a valuable asset, [he] definitely has some juice left at the position."
Cleveland would be bringing in Wilson on a one-year deal if he were to sign and he would be set up to be the bridge quarterback. Cleveland is expected to take a quarterback early in the draft next month.
The Browns now await Wilson’s decision, but it is clear that Garrett would like for the former Seattle Seahawks to end up in Northeast Ohio.
