The Los Angeles Rams made waves in free agency, kicking off the offseason by making a few big signings and trades.
One of those moves was signing superstar wide receiver Davante Adams in free agency as one of the opening salvos of the offseason.
This was a major coup for the Rams, who have been looking to add dynamic talent to the wide receiver room for a few years. With Cooper Kupp's departure from the Rams, they'll need Adams's veteran leadership. Kupp signed with their NFC West-rival Seattle Seahawks.
Adams' signing drew praise across the league, and ESPN named the Rams a winner of free agency. Two separate analysts labeled the acquisition as the best addition of free agency so far:
"Bowen: The Rams signing wide receiver Davante Adams. He's an upgrade over Cooper Kupp on his new two-year deal, as Adams can get loose against press coverage and create separation to the ball. Opposite Puka Nacua, Adams can win one-on-one as the "X" receiver, plus he will be schemed to attack zone voids off motion and in play-action. This is a really good fit for Sean McVay's offense."
"Thiry: The Rams signing Adams. After retaining Matthew Stafford with a reworked contract, the addition of Adams provides Stafford a 1-2 punch along with Nacua. For a team that missed the NFC Championship Game by a mere play last season, the addition of Adams should be enough to help bring another deep playoff run."
Both of these perspectives are absolutely spot on. The Rams needed a difference-maker outside after they got suffocated by the Eagles for much of their divisional round game, and still almost beat the eventual Super Bowl champs on the road. Now, the Rams have added a superstar who can win consistently and help take coverage away from Puka Nacua, allowing him to create even more.
The Rams also aren't done adding to the wide receiver room, as it seems pretty likely the team will select at least one in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. This, along with a healthy tight end room, should give Matthew Stafford plenty of weapons for another Super Bowl run in their 2025 season.
