Never put it past the Cincinnati Bengals to invest in pure speed. John Ross and DJ Turner II, the players with the fastest 40-yard dash times from the 2017 and 2023 NFL Scouting Combines, respectively, were each draft by the Bengals. The former held the all-time record for seven years until Xavier Worthy broke it by 0.01 seconds.
Ross and Turner's ability to scoot solidified their draft profiles and the Bengals wanted to take advantage.
They could be aiming to do the same with the fastest running back in this year's class.
Bengals meet with Virginia Tech RB Bhayshul Tuten
Virginia Tech's pro day on Wednesday featured running back Bhayshul Tuten, whose 40 time from the combine was 4.32, and six other notable Hokies performing drills for all 32 NFL clubs. The Bengals happened to be the team that ran Tuten through his drills.
Per Sportskeeda's Tony Pauline, the Bengals then met with Tuten after his workout.
Tuten looked terrific in position drills and caught the ball exceptionally well. In a very deep running back class, Tuten carries a third-round grade on my board, and he’s likely to end up in that frame. On Wednesday, he met with the Cincinnati Bengals, who ran the position drills, and has an official-30 visit set with the Steelers. – Sportskeeda's Tony Pauline
Tuten is the fastest running back entering the draft this year and his 40 time was the fifth-fastest out of all players who ran in Indianapolis.
Obviously, Tuten didn't need to run again this week to prove what the Bengals and everyone else already knows. That Cincinnati sent running back coach Justin Hill out to Blacksburg, Va. to see what Tuten looked like going through drills up close and personal is notable. A meeting directly afterwards typically means it went well.
The Bengals have a speedster tailback on the roster in Chase Brown, who ran with the starting job last year and has two years remaining on his rookie contract. Samaje Perine was added back to the mix this month and with Zack Moss' future in limbo, the expectation is the Bengals will replace Moss with a rookie from a stacked rookie class of running backs.
Tuten is now a name to remember for when the draft reaches the middle rounds.
