No one in the media knows Aaron Rodgers better than his former teammate A.J. Hawk.
Teammates who won a Super Bowl together, Hawk and Rodgers have a relationship that has carried over to the media world, with weekly interviews during the season on the Pat McAfee show.
And while Rodgers wasn't around late last week, it didn't stop Hawk from mentioning what he knows about a recent meeting between Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers…
A.J. Hawk says Aaron Rodgers Loves the Steelers
“Well, I do know that he actually really likes all the Pittsburgh staff. He loves the staff, the front office, everything about Pittsburgh. The people there, that’s what makes the Steelers, the Steelers, don’t you think? From the top, down, I think he definitely loves all them.”
While Hawk is no insider, when it comes to Aaron Rodgers, there is no one who's words carry more weight. The reason you have seen and continue to see so many different reports on Aaron Rodgers' future is that he has a very, very small circle.
And through it all, while Hawk has admitted that you never quite know with Rodgers, he has remained adamant that he doesn't think he retires, and now, that he loves the Steelers brass and coaches.
But once again, it is Aaron Rodgers. An enigma (the title of his Netflix documentary) there is still a good chance that Rodgers himself doesn't know what he wants to do yet.
And as far as this meeting that happened a couple of weeks ago at this point, the more that comes out, the more you realize that Rodgers was the one who orchestrated the whole thing.
“Aaron invited himself on a visit late last week," said NFL insider Tom Pelissro. "He was in the building for several hours, he watched tape with the coaches. This deal has been in place contract-wise for weeks. They’ve discussed parameters. This is not going to be a financial issue at all for Aaron Rodgers. If it gets done, it’s going to be a 1-year deal…
"…This was a get-to-know-you meeting; everything there sounds positive. I can tell you Aaron has kept a dialogue with various members of the organization, coaches, other players. There’s been communication like this is something he’s really going to do and at this point right now, sitting here in late March the Pittsburgh Steelers are the only opportunity that Aaron has.”
