One of the best pass rushers in the country has had less than an ideal pre-draft process up to this point.
Mike Green, the edge rusher out of Marshall, was a prolific pass rusher last season, leading the country in sacks with 17. The difficulty is that Green spent most of his media availability at the NFL Scouting Combine answering questions about past sexual assault allegations, while unable to showcase his abilities on the field due to a hamstring injury. The week went very poorly for him.
Teams will have to do their homework on the character concerns, but as a player, Green has all the makings of a first-round talent that the Buffalo Bills should be very interested in. His Pro Day put some numbers behind his athleticism.
Mike Green's Pro Day proved that he has elite athleticism
Green's film showcases a bendy and hyper-athletic pass rusher that uses his athleticism to his advantage in getting after the quarterback. Even though he wasn't able to perform at the Combine, he was able to showcase what he can do at his Pro Day.
Green's 3-cone time of 6.85 seconds is a 99th percentile time for his position. Donovan Ezeiruaku's 6.94 seconds was the tops at the position at the Combine this year. Green blew that time out of the water. The average 3-cone time for NFL EDGE rushers is 7.23 seconds.
The Bills are in need of impact players on defense, and if they feel comfortable with the off-the-field issues, then his athleticism and production is a great profile for a potential difference maker in getting after the quarterback.
