Staff, assemble. That's the goal for Kellen Moore and the New Orleans Saints in the coming days. He was officially hired by the team on Tuesday afternoon and will hold an introductory press conference on Thursday afternoon.
The former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator is excited and motivated for his first opportunity as an NFL head coach. With the hiring, Moore becomes the youngest HC in the league at 36 years old.
With the staff decisions looming, it will be intriguing to see how Moore's prior relationships around the NFL, and football itself, affect his process. One name mentioned on social media does not have NFL coaching experience, but he did play quarterback at the pro level.
Latest on Dan Orlovsky
The ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback hinted at a potential job change after spending recent years on television. Earlier this week, he thanked everyone involved on First Take.
He clearly seemed unsure about his future with ESPN or on TV, in general. That could be due to decisions of his own or by others, and that remains to be seen.
Future in coaching?
Orlovsky has often been applauded for his on-field analysis while working on TV. A lot of fans enjoy his breakdowns on ESPN, and he shows off a clear history of understanding the game of football at a high level.
Now, with his future potentially up in the air, many are wondering if he could become a coach sometime soon. An assistant gig may make the most sense at the college or NFL level.
Orlovsky chimed in on the hire by the Saints on Tuesday, too. He mentioned that he is good friends with Moore and advised him to find his quarterback.
Moore and Orlovsky were teammates on the Detroit Lions a little over a decade ago, too.
All in all, the speculation surrounding Moore's staff is the most notable piece of the offseason happening as of now for the Saints. New Orleans needs to make the right coaching hires in order to begin the road back to winning.
That's the new challenge for Moore.
