The NFL draft is over and done and most teams have closed on the books on free agency for the 2025 season. The Jets grabbed seven players in the draft in the first five rounds and they are hoping that all of them are contributors to the 2025 team and beyond.

But it would be naive to think that the Jets drafted seven immediate starters and they won’t have some injuries along the way. While most teams have spent all the big money they had in free agency already, there are still plenty of impactful players still available to sign for the right price.

With that in mind, here are three free agents the Jets should look to sign on offense before the start of training camp.

Amari Cooper, WR

The Jets should still be in the market for a wide receiver as the position is rail thin after super star Garrett Wilson. The “best” option they have for the number two spot is Allen Lazard who may be on his way to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jets identity might be to run the ball, but even I can’t crush Justin Fields too much throwing to this sorry group of pass catchers (Wilson excluded).

Last season was a down year for Cooper in terms of his production. The 30-year-old receiver never quite built clicked with Josh Allen after he was traded to the Buffalo Bills midseason. However, Cooper is still a smooth route runner and a possession receiver who can create separation. Cooper was rumored to be interested in reuniting with the Dallas Cowboys before they traded for George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Keenan Allen, WR

Have I mentioned the Jets desperately need a wide receiver opposite Garrett Wilson? The players they brought are simply not good enough to demand the respect of any defensive coordinator worth his salt.

Allen had a bad year in Chicago, which is why he is still a free agent. But he is still only two years removed from breaking the Los Angeles Chargers single-season reception record. He may be entering his age-33 season, but he is still a big wide receiver who can help an inaccurate passer like Justin Fields and at the very least, make opponents think twice before putting 8,9 or even 10 guys in the box.

Gerald Everett, TE

The Jets are receiving a lot of praise for their selection of LSU Tight End Mason Taylor in the second round of the NFL draft, and he could pan out to be worth the hype. But the fact remains he is a rookie and rookie tight ends rarely make a major impact in their first year.

So, with that in mind, back to the Chargers/Bears connection they should go.  The former second-round pick Everett flashed at times with 127 catches for 1,389 yards and eight touchdowns in his first four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and continued to put up modest numbers as he spent a season with the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Chargers. Everett is a professional tight end who can be good enough to make a difference on the team, while not being expensive enough to ride the bench if Taylor struggles early on.
