It's no secret that Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles love what Kirby Smart is doing in Athens, considering they have drafted five former Georgia Bulldogs and signed one other in recent years.

And now they've added a seventh after selecting Smael Mondon at No. 161 overall in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

In a total of 51 games with the Bulldogs, Mondon amassed 212 total tackles, including 18 tackles for loss, eight sacks, and one interception. Mondon also showcased his versatility in pass defense, logging five pass breakups.

The Eagles looked better at linebacker in 2024 than they did during their disastrous 2023 season, thanks to Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean. But outside of those two, there really isn't anyone who stands out, which is why Mondon makes a ton of sense for the Birds.

Between Mondon Jr.'s overall athleticism and versatility, he will align perfectly with Vic Fangio's defense.

Sure, the Eagles drafted Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell on Day 1, but they're expected to his him as an edge while Mondon fits the mold as an off-ball linebacker.

It also helps that Mondon Jr. will reunite with seven of his former Georgia teammates, something he talked about during the pre-draft process.

"It would mean everything," Mondon told reporters at the Reese's Senior Bowl in February of what it would mean to be drafted by Philadelphia, "Going in there and seeing all of those familiar faces, it would feel good."

And now it's happening.
