The New Orleans Saints just selected a new quarterback in round two of the 2025 NFL Draft. Tyler Shough joins the fold. Even after that addition, plenty of folks are doubting their success for the upcoming season on the field.

Saints pick LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier in 2026 mock draft
In the latest A to Z Sports Film Room 2026 NFL mock draft, the Saints picked a new quarterback for the future of their team. Nussmeier was the selection at fifth overall.
This pick is interesting for both the player and the team in more ways than one. Of course, it would be an LSU star staying in the state to potentially be the long-term QB in New Orleans.
Nussmeier has had some inconsistent moments as the Tigers QB so far in his college career, but fans are incredibly excited for this season for him and their offense. They've got a lot of faith in him.
Connection to Saints' staff
Past that, Nussmeier's father is on staff for the Saints. Doug Nussmeier came with Kellen Moore from the Philadelphia Eagles to be Moore's offensive coordinator for the Saints.
There's legitimate starter potential here, backed by NFL-caliber talent and proven production against top competition. The primary concern isn't about Nussmeier's ability to play at the next level – he's already shown he can make every throw required and handle complex defensive looks. The real question is whether his frame can withstand the weekly punishment of an NFL season. His competitive fire and natural talent are clear first-round caliber, but his success may ultimately depend on finding a system that can protect him while maximizing his considerable gifts. With proper physical development and a scheme that helps him stay clean in the pocket, Nussmeier has all the tools to be a difference-maker at the next level. — NFL Draft Buzz
We will see if Nussmeier is, in fact, on the Saints' radar by the end of the winter. His performance this season will ultimately decide his NFL Draft stock for next season.
Saints HC Kellen Moore answers two important questions about his roster without saying a word with 2025 NFL Draft class
Following Kellen Moore's first NFL Draft class as a head coach, it will be interesting to see how the rest of the offseason unfolds for his team. Saints will add another wide receiver in free agency It is hard for me to imagine that New Orleans does not add another pass catcher in free agency. […]
