There is no cornerback in the NFL that is getting slept on more than Bills' corner Christian Benford, who is playing at an elite level and continues to get ignored. With the Pro Bowl rosters being announced and Benford being left off, it's further proof that he isn't getting the respect that he deserves.
Benford has been playing at a lights-out level, and nobody is paying attention. He continues to showcase his sticky coverage and his physicality to contest at the catch point.
Maybe it's because of his draft slot that he doesn't get the love that he deserves. Being selected in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. According to FTN, Benford is second among all corners in cornerback coverage DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) behind only the Broncos' Pat Surtain.
Straight up, he's been elite. The way that he has developed from being a sixth round pick into a shutdown CB1 is as impressive as it gets.
His development is a credit to his work ethic as much as it is a credit to the coaching and development, especially on defense, that Sean McDermott has had in his time in Buffalo. He continues to take late-round players and mold them into franchise cornerstones. His work with the secondary in particular is unbelievable, and is a large part of what makes him such a good head coach.
Pro Bowl or not, Benford is continuing his upward trajectory as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Those that don't know his name will learn it soon enough, especially with the Bills on their way to the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the AFC.
