Buffalo entered the last week of the regular season with nothing to play for other than pride and individual incentives, like Von Miller cashing a $1.5 million payday with his first quarter sack. The Patriots, on the other hand, had plenty left to be determined by the outcome of this game.

If New England lost, they would have held the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, putting them in the driver's seat of the offseason. Instead, they won the game, with the Bills calling a very vanilla game on offense.

Front offices might tank, fans might want teams to tank, but players don't. Joe Milton stepped onto the field for the Patriots today and played an outstanding game, playing the best that he possibly could. It was his first opportunity to get extended run in an NFL game. For Milton, and all the other players that took the field, it was an opportunity to make an impression on their coaches, to take advantage of what was in front of them, and to maybe make a case for roster spots next year.

Milton looked incredible, completing 22/29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown, adding 16 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown as well.

Whether or not everyone on the field for the Bills were truly giving their all late in the game is simply up to speculation. But, the Bills get the best of both worlds — their playoff seeding was secure, and their division rival lost the first overall pick. Win-win. Where the Patriots will pick exactly will be determined with the Sunday afternoon games.
