Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen is hiring a longtime friend to be the team's quarterbacks coach.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Tuesday morning Coen is bringing on Spencer Whipple.
"Jaguars are hiring Cardinals pass game specialist Spencer Whipple as their new quarterbacks coach," Schefter wrote on X/Twitter. "Whipple – the son of former UMass HC and longtime NFL assistant Mark Whipple – spent the last six seasons in Arizona in multiple roles under Kliff Kingsbury and Jonathan Gannon."
Whipple, an underrated up-and-coming coach in the NFL, joined the Arizona Cardinals coaching staff under Kliff Kingsbury in 2019.
Whipple worked as a quality control coach, assistant wide receivers coach, and co-pass game coordinator during Kingsbury's tenure here he moved to pass game specialist when Jonathan Gannon was hired in 2023.
One of Whipple's bigger shining moments during his six-year stint in Arizona came during the 2021 season when he stepped in to call plays against the Cleveland Browns while Kingsbury was out due to COVID-19. The Cardinals pulled off a 37-14 win that game with Whipple in charge.
Whipple and Coen's friendship dates back to more than 10 years ago when they both coached the UMass Minutemen under Mark Whipple in 2014.
Since then, the two have remained in close contact with one another and this hire only goes to show that Coen has a ton of trust in Whipple's ability to transform the Jaguars' quarterback room.
