Tennessee Vols head coach Rick Barnes dropped an all-timer on Tuesday night after UT's 68-56 win against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
The Vols jumped out to an 8-0 lead against the Bulldogs and never really looked back. There was a point in the second half, though, where Mississippi State went on a run and had a chance to cut the lead to four.
Tennessee center Felix Okpara, however, hit an unlikely three-pointer to push the Vols' lead back to double digits with 14 minutes left in the game. UT cruised from there.
Okpara took the shot as the shot clock was winding down.
After the game, Barnes told reporters that Okpara should never take another three-pointer in a Vols uniform, that way he can preserve his perfect 1.000 three-point percentage.
Barnes referenced Tennessee athletic director's basketball career at Notre Dame while delivering the joke.
"It was a big play," said Barnes. "Like I said, it was a lucky play obviously because he hadn't taken one all year. If he were smart, he wouldn't take another one and he'll leave here as the all-time leading three-point shooter, percentage wise. He would be Tennessee's version of Danny White at Notre Dame. You know, Danny's the all-time leading field-goal percentage shooter, so they can have that in common."
White, who started his college basketball career at Towson before transferring to Notre Dame, apparently connected on his only three-point attempt during his career with the Fighting Irish.
Unfortunately for White, he didn't have enough career attempts to be officially listed as Notre Dame's all-time leader.
Here's photo evidence of White playing college basketball at Notre Dame.
It doesn't look like White played much at Notre Dame, but hey, you gotta be a baller to even put the uniform on at that level.
