KaVontae Turpin didn't sound too happy with Cowboys' play calling as Mike McCarthy's future gets blurrier and blurrier

With Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy fighting for his job every week, for the most part, he's been backed up by his players. From Dak Prescott to CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons, there has been a lot of quotes supporting the coach through the ups and downs of the 2024 season.
Even after Sunday's blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Tyler Smith didn't mention McCarthy explicitly but he did point out the team didn't quit.
However, wide receiver KaVontae Turpin had some noteworthy comments on McCarthy's play calling, pointing out that without CeeDee Lamb on the field, receivers didn't get downfield routes.
"Man, I just feel like, at the end of the day, with CeeDee gone, we weren't really calling no pass plays, we just run the ball, throwing checkdowns," Turpin told reporters postgame. "I just feel like man, if you want to see how we were doing, (there weren't players running downfield."
Ironically, McCarthy admitted postgame he hoped to be able to run the ball even more but four turnovers cost the Cowboys the opportunity to do so.
"That's the plan in the receiving room. We thought we're going to go out there and show people, it ain't all about CeeDee," Turpin added via The Athletic's Saad Yousuf. "At the end of the day, we wasn't getting no down the field routes being called. We just had to see what we could do."
Ultimately, I can't blame a wide receiver for wanting more and more targets and though I don't view it as a direct shot at McCarthy, it sure sounds like Turpin would've liked a more aggressive passing gameplan. That appears to be all that he wanted. A chance for the wide receiver room to shine even without CeeDee Lamb on the field.
Turpin finished the game with only one catch for 16 yards but did get some action out of the backfield, adding two carries for 18 yards.
