The San Francisco 49ers are not expected to get anything out of their Week 17 matchup with the Detroit Lions, which marks their final home game of the season. However, there is more optimism among oddsmakers about their 2024 finale with the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

San Francisco, per OddsTrader, opened as a one-point favorite on the road against the Cardinals.

That may be something of a surprising line given how the 49ers have slumped down the stretch and the injury adversity with which they are dealing, especially on a decimated offensive line.

But even with their injuries, the 49ers still hold a raw talent edge over the Cardinals on both sides of the ball.

They did not capitalize on that advantage in Week 5, slumping to a damaging defeat in one of four division games in which the Niners gave up a fourth-quarter lead.

With the pressure off, the oddsmakers are backing the 49ers to get the job done this time around.

Should they do so, it would mark a third straight road win over the Cardinals, the 49ers having blown out Arizona at State Farm Stadium in 2023 and in Mexico City in 2022. The Cardinals were the designated home team at Estadio Azteca.

San Francisco also has the chance to make it four wins in its last five road games against Arizona, its only defeat in the last four coming in the 2021 campaign.

A win to end the season would be cold comfort for the 49ers, but they would surely take some solace in ending a miserable year on a high and gaining a measure of revenge on Arizona.
