The San Francisco 49ers' 2024 season is almost over and, following their Monday Night Football loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 17, they now know the identity of every team they will face in 2025.

With the defeat to the Detroit, the 49ers are now sure of finishing in last place in the NFC West regardless of what they do in their Week 18 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.

That is a dismal slump for a team that had aspirations of going one better than their Super Bowl loss last season and won the division in both 2022 and 2023.

But the benefit for the Niners is that it means they get to play a last-place schedule, one that looks very favorable for a bounce-back year in 2025 for a perennial contender.

Take a look at those opponents and some thoughts down below. . .

2025 Away Opponents:

  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Houston Texans
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • New Orleans Saints
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • New York Giants
  • Cleveland Browns

2025 Home Opponents:

  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Carolina Panthers
  • Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Tennessee Titans
  • Chicago Bears

Observations

After fading dreadfully down the stretch of this season, the 49ers on paper have a substantially easier road to the playoffs in the 2025 campaign.

They are set to face only four games with 2024 playoff teams next season and, at the time of writing, they are scheduled to contest six games with teams who posted a winning record this season. That number could increase to seven depending on whether the Atlanta Falcons prevail in Week 18.

A downside to the 49ers' schedule is that only eight of their 17 games are at home, yet with five of those games against teams with 2024 losing records, San Francisco is seemingly in a strong position to thrive at Levi's Stadium.

With their away schedule, the 49ers will be logging a lot of air miles in 2025, their two longest trips being to face the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

But the 49ers prevailed on a long trip to Tampa in 2024 and they will have no fear about facing a Giants team in the mix for the No. 1 pick this year.

Will the 49ers play any international games in 2025?

Though the NFL has yet to officially announce any international games, we know that Commissioner Roger Goodell is looking at scheduling eight for the 2025 season.

The league ultimately envisions a future in which each team will play an international game during the course of a season. We already know that Spain will host an international game in Madrid, and Germany will host an international game in Berlin.

There will be more games in London, while Mexico, Brazil, Switzerland, and Ireland have been discussed as possibilities.

San Francisco played in Mexico City in 2022, trouncing the Arizona Cardinals as the designated road team. If the Niners are selected to play abroad again in 2025, it will likely be as the road team once again.

The 49ers were the home team in 2010 when they beat the Denver Broncos in their first game of two in London (they also beat the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013). However, with only eight games at Levi's on the docket for 2025, the Niners are unlikely to want to give one up to serve as the home team in another country.
