Brock Purdy was excellent for most of the San Francisco 49ers' Week 17 loss to the Detroit Lions, throwing for a career-high 377 passing yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another .

His performance was spoiled by two costly interceptions that proved crucial in the 49ers losing a 40-34 thriller, but of greater concern will be the fourth-quarter injury that forced him to leave the game.

Purdy went down hard on a sack by Brian Branch in the final two minutes.

Josh Dobbs came in for Purdy, who was noticeably grimacing as he attempted to test his arm out on the sideline.

Though the exact nature of his injury was not clear, the concerned look on Purdy's face spoke volumes.

Purdy, of course, has a significant injury on his resume, having torn elbow ligaments in his throwing arm during the NFC Championship Game in the 2022 season.

Heading into an offseason in which he will be eligible to receive a potentially extremely lucrative contract extension, a severe injury would be hugely damaging to Purdy.

In the more immediate future, the injury would appear to put him in doubt for the 49ers' season finale, which sees them face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
