NASHVILLE – With a 37-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and six offensive turnovers, the Tennessee Titans have officially entered the conversation for being the worst team in the NFL.
That also means that the Titans are now in the conversation for teams that could land two-way superstar and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Hunter is consensus top player available on the 2025 big board, but if teams at the top of the draft are quarterback needy teams, it could open up a chance for Tennessee to get the best overall talent in the class.
As things currently sit, the Titans are in position with the 6th overall pick in the projected draft order. They are tied with the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, and Jacksonville Jaguars at 3-11.
Only the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants are worse, but the Raiders (2-11) are still yet play this week. They'll take on the Atlanta Falcons for Monday Night Football.
But even if the Giants and Raiders were the two teams picking at the top of the draft., There's a good chance one or both of them could opt to select a franchise quarterback instead of Hunter. That would leave the Heisman Trophy winner and two-way superstar on the board for whoever lands the third pick.
Titans Draft Position
If we operate under the assumption that Tennessee loses out and finishes with a 3-14 record, a little help could push the Titans into the Top 3.
One notable game will be next week's matchup between the Raiders and Jaguars. Titans fans should be rooting for the Raiders to win. That would jump the Titans up one more spot int he order, and Tennessee still has a date with Jacksonville later this season. The Carolina Panthers have been playing much better football as of late. A win for the Panthers at any point would also go a long way.
After recent events and the regression from Will Levis, the Titans are now a team that could consider pursuing a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. But given how thin this quarterback class is – and the likelihood that the Giants will take one with the first overall selection – I'm almost thinking Tennessee has a better shot at hunter.
It could make some sense to add a world class cornerback to Dennard Wilson's defense while also getting an impactful weapon on offense. I'd then expect Tennessee to address the quarterback position in free agency. Some of the top names available include Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Jameis Winston, and Cooper Rush. Any of those bridge options could make some sense on a one- or two-year contract.
