Christmas is just 10 days away.

And while the Pittsburgh Steelers have their hands full with a packed schedule and a series of injuries to big-name stars, they aren't alone in terms of the latter.

That's because after Kansas City Chiefs star QB Patrick Mahomes suffered an ankle injury yesterday, the latest update casts a shadow on his upcoming availability:

Tests Confirm Patrick Mahomes Has A High Ankle Sprain

"Patrick Mahomes is believed to have suffered a high ankle spring in yesterday's game," NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport said early Monday morning. "Obviously, exits the game. Carson Wentz finished out a relatively easy win for the Kansas City Chiefs. You watch that hit high low, the amount of pain he's in, him limping off. None of it is good. That said, it does not appear, based on the initial diagnosis, that this is a dire situation. Yes, I said the words high ankle sprain, that is the fear. Patrick Mahomes could have more tests today. X-rays were negative. He is considered week to week. This is the same Mahomes that had a somewhat similar high ankle sprain around the playoffs a couple of years back and ended up playing. His body is just built differently. I know people say it, but it actually is. So, we will see what his status is. He has a Saturday game, then a Christmas game does complicate things."

Well, shortly after the initial report, Rapoport was able to confirm the status of Mahomes following his report that the QBs testing did show a high ankle sprain, something he's dealt with in recent years:

Undoubtedly the best player on the Chiefs, if not in the whole league, the news obviously has massive implications not only for Kansas City and the Steelers given their upcoming matchup, but the entire league given KC's quest for a three-peat.

The prior playoffs that Rapoport references were the 2022-2023 playoffs when Mahomes suffered an ankle injury during the divisional round playoff game with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He missed a single quarter of play before returning to finish the game. He also didn't miss any games during the rest of the playoff en route to a Super Bowl LVII victory over the Philadelphia Eagles

We'll see if the Chiefs let Mahomes try and tough it out against the Texans on Saturday, save him for Christmas, or just play for the postseason at this point, rallying their troops for a shot at NFL history.
