There was plenty of orange in the stands for the Tennessee Vols' 36-23 win against the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville last weekend.
Tennessee fans usually ruin Vanderbilt's home field advantage and last weekend's game was no exception.
After the game, Vols head coach Josh Heupel sent a message to Tennessee fans who made the trip to Nashville for UT's playoff clinching win against the Commodores.
"They showed up in droves," said Heupel of Vols fans during The Josh Heupel Show. "We come out of the tunnel for warm ups and it's a sea of orange. Our fans showed up and showed out like they always do. It was great to go play in front of them today. A huge part of this team [and] this season is our fan base. That's at home and everybody that shows up on the road, too. They're a big part of the climb that we've made as a program."
There's no doubt that that Vols fans provide a ton of energy for the team — both at home and on the road.
That fan support is incredibly important for the program (especially for recruiting). That's why it's wise for Heupel to consistently praise Tennessee fans, unlike his predecessor, Jeremy Pruitt, who once tried to lecture Vols fans for not attending a spring game.
After all, the fans are a big part of what makes Tennessee such a unique and special program in the SEC.
